Artist for Change: Climate Emergency Artists for Change roles are supported by the Jerwood Developing Artists Fund Page 2 About our Artist for Change Roles Our Artist for Change will have a creative practice, be in the early to mid-stage of their career development and will be passionate about the ability of their work to impact people's view of the world. They can be a practising artist in any performing art form. We anticipate that they will deliver some kind of audience/participant focussed output over the year that they work with us. They will contribute to, and move forward the conversation, about how art can make change. They will be unafraid of speaking truth to power and using their art form expertise to engender conversation about an area of significant concern to TRP and the wider community. They will be curious and determined. Their focus will be on social change. They will champion equality, diversity and inclusion and will ensure that it is fully embedded in all aspects of TRP's work, both on and off the stage. The successful candidates may well be an activist and will work in tandem with others within the TRP Creative Team to ensure that the artistic programme is self-conscious in its delivery of a programme of work that appeals to a broad range of audiences and participants. They will push boundaries and take creative risks whilst ensuring that TRP continues to sustain and build its audiences and delivery against agreed financial objectives. Salary £17,000 Reports to Director of Strategic Projects Line Management - Volunteers, other creatives associated to projects Contract: Our intention is for this role to be a one-year contract on a PAYE basis. We can be flexible about what this means in practice. Page 3 Key Responsibilities With the wider creative team, set the creative vision for the organisation and provide artistic leadership to TRP's work around the climate emergency. Deliver projects that diversify TRP's creative programme; for artists; audiences and participants. Oversee, with the Director of Strategic Projects, creative and broader considerations within the programme around the climate emergency, working closely with members of the Executive Team and other Leadership Team members as appropriate. Work with the Leadership Team to set an organisational culture that is inclusive, collaborative, safe and supportive; as well as artistically bold and ambitious. Page 4 Creative Leadership Take responsibility for the delivery of any creative work around the Environment Policy and work in conjunction with the rest of the creative team to begin the process of embedding change across our artistic programme so that it reflects our commitment to innovation, excellence, diversity and inclusion, and serves its target audiences Ask difficult questions about the use of the Earth's resources Develop and deliver at least one project that creates the space for a wide conversation about the change needed to impact on the climate emergency Generate the conditions with the Director of Strategic Projects, for colleagues internally to engage with the climate emergency Make connections with a new diverse generation of theatre-makers who centre the climate emergency in their work in close collaboration with TRP's Head of Artist Development Work collaboratively and support the development of co-productions ensuring the process is interrogated through the lens of the climate emergency Value and give prominence to all TRP's work with and for communities, ensuring they have value and agency in our work Advocate for, support and create opportunities for South West based artists. Page 5 Personal Specification Experience and a track record as a practicing artist, in any performing art form, but no more than 10 years' experience Keenly interested in socio-political issues around the climate emergency A portfolio of early career work with the climate and the environment as driving issues A genuine interest in making change, and a fearless ambition to speak truth to power Experience of delivering work against budgets Experience of working in collaboration Skills Proven ability to create new work Demonstrates a high level of skill in establishing collaborative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders Excellent time-management and planning skills, yet able to be flexible and adaptable within a changing environment Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate fresh ideas and integrate them into the artistic vision The ability to articulate TRP's artistic vision to inspire and excite a wide range of stakeholders The skill to balance innovation and creative flair with the need for commercial awareness Qualities Credible, exciting and inspiring leadership and motivational style Committed to diversity, inclusion, social and climate justice A strong reputation for being a good and caring person A track record for being generous of spirit with other artists and team members End
